Riding big wheels in Switzerland Frankly, because bigger is better

Always amazed at what some smaller national brands crank out. French New Cycling posted a few photos on their Facebook page of a Titanium 29er hardtail that those guys have in the pipeline. Far away from a classic Ti frame, they integrated a bunch of the latest must-have design features, such as tapered head tube, 142x12 dropouts, post mount disc tabs and short chainstays to create a sharp looking Titanium race frame that is certain to turn heads. Always amazed at what some smaller national brands crank out. French New Cycling posted a few photos on their Facebook page of a Titanium 29er hardtail that those guys have in the pipeline. The Razorblade 29 is Simplon’s big-wheeled race-hardtail. With a shortish 435 mm chain stay length and a short wheelbase, the bike is built to be an agile racer. The wide, flattened top tube, the thinly shaped seat stays and the small diameter (27.2 mm) seat post should guarantee plenty of comfort. Simplon’s done their homework and included must-have features such as a press-fit BB, a tapered head tube, post mount rear brake nicely placed between the stays, internal cable routing and a 142 mm spaced dropouts. First shown at the Riva Bike Festival, Mountain Bike has some new photos of the up-and-com·ing 29er carbon racer by Simplon.

Simplon presented an extremely sharp looking 29er carbon hardtail at the Riva Bike Festival. press-fit BB, tapered head tube, internal cable routing, 142mm rear dropout, an extremely flattened top tube that flows into the chainstays at the seat tube junction. Of the crop of recent carbon hardtails, this one really stands out and I’d throw my legs over one in a minute.

As reports, a bit late to the 29er game, has given folks at a peek at their first 29er hardtail which will likely be shown in final form at Eurobike. The frame has a bent seat tube, tight 430mm chain stays, lowered seat stays, a short tapered head tube, direct mount front derailleur and post mount rear brake tabs. BMC’s trademark T-shaped top tube features their skeletal seat tube junction to round off this fast and filigree looking aluminum frame.

Niner, Gary Fisher and a few others brought the first wave of 29er carbon hardtails. In 2010 a couple more joined the party. Now, we’re heading into the 2011 season and by the looks of what’s coming to the market, each and everyone will be riding a plastic big wheeler. This week got flooded with information about a couple more brands looking to grab a slice of the market by presenting their take on what a carbon mountain bike should be. Here’s who they are:

Santa Cruz leaked a couple of nice pictures of that carbon 29er they’re supposed to come out with. Color options are glossy with red and a matte silver/white.

Yes, carbon fiber. Yes, hardtail. Yes, 29″ wheels. Regular ol’ bottom bracket shell, regular weight ol’ tubes in regular ol’ tires, rise bars, nice parts, twenty pounds, nine ounces. No, not a joke. No, we’re not gonna say anything more right now. Available sometime after the cherry blossoms fall from the tree. Stay tuned. Merry Happy etcetera. We’re shutting the doors here in a few hours and nobody will be around to answer any questions until AFTER THE NEW YEAR.

Looking forward to read and see more about it …

2011 Specialized Stumpjumper 29er Carbon
Awesome carbon frame wrapped in nice colors, carbon-rimmed Roval wheels, 2x10 drivetrain and lots of other great goodies. One heck of a 29er! If I didn’t have an Air 9 Carbon on order, the 2011 Singlespeed Stumpjumper which will come with a clever sliding dropout design would be my next bike. Zoom
