Riding big wheels in Switzerland Frankly, because bigger is better

Back in April I ordered some Bontrager 29.2 and XR3 tires to have some lighter tires for the summer to my disposal. Unfortunately, the online shop I ordered them from could not deliver until the end of July. Lesson learned, I’ll never order from a shop again that doesn’t have correct availability information or clearly states that an item is out of stock. While I was across the big pond vacationing in the southern hemisphere - more precisely in Salvador, Bahia - a box full of Bonti tires arrived at the doorstep back home.

Inside the box, two 29.2 Team Issue TLR tires, with a fast rolling, quick cornering 29er-specific tread pattern and a lightweight 120 tpi casing. Bontrager says it’s “designed for loose over hardpack or loamy conditions, and includes scooped block edges that dig into loose terrain and long shoulder blocks for stability in cornering”. This tire is therefore most likely going right into my tire drawer waiting to be used next season. The two other tires are the XR3 Team Issue model. According to the tire’s versatile design with an open, aggressive tread that combines a fast-rolling center region and strong, aggressive shoulders should take anyone with confidence across a wide variety of trail conditions. An all-around compound with a lightweight and supple casing for those who ride everywhere and prefer to use a single tire in every condition. Fits me who often only changes tires once they need to be tossed. When I do my next tire change, one of these is going onto the rear wheel. This tire should work well for the late summer and fall here in Switzerland, when occasional rains soften up the ground.
