Riding big wheels in Switzerland Frankly, because bigger is better

After yesterday’s long ride to the Chasseral I spent the morning on the balcony and only left for a shorter ride way past noon. I had the Chemin du Haut des Roches in mind, a tough trail that with its length, steepness and loose rocks tosses me off the singlespeed each time and probably always will. It’s an awesome climb to gauge my fitness and I surprised myself today by actually getting very far up the climb before I had to call it quits. I stayed on the mountain ridge all the way to the Place Centrale and crossed a whole bunch of riders. The fair weather riders were out in droves. I had to be back by 4PM so I headed to the Spaghetti Trail to get back home on my usual trails. When I reached the most technical and rocky section on Spaghetti, four riders were standing in the way. I stopped and waited for them to ride on, but they wanted me to go ahead. I cleared the rocks perfectly and got a big “wow, he rode it” comment from one of the guys standing there. Nothing special, one just needs to know the right line to pick and only pick it if the rocks are dry. I don’t even attempt it when the ground is wet. Blasted the rest of the way home to meet friends in town for a cold Aare beer. It was a good day.
